Beach Time Again – Day 5
The kids were little upset yesterday and were not happy without a beach visit π . So we promised that they’ll have the whole day planned in the beach.
We decided to drive towards Maui Southwest shores. Kihei was the first spot that is mainly a beach combing territory and has more than 6 beaches in that stretch.
Kiheiβs Kalama Beach Park has lot of shady lawns and palm trees. There are 3 beaches of Kamaole few blocks from the Kalama beach park. We made a stop at the Kamaloe Beach to spend the rest of our day. Kihei town has a small shopping mall and other rental stores that sell all gadgets for water specific activities. We rented few surf boards and life jackets for kids & adults. Padma & I stayed away from water and decided to take some good rest and take photos/videos of our family
The Kamaloe beach was pretty calm and the waves were pretty low compared to other beaches. The 2 kids along with their Dad’s had a great time surfing in the beach. Dhishita was on & off surfing but the 3 guys were never tired. Arvind, Mani & Madhavan enjoyed surfing non-stop and at one point I could see their interest to go little deeper in search of big waves. It’s a family friendly beach and there were lot of kids doing surfing & snorkeling. While they were surfing, I took a very nice stroll around the beach capturing the nature’s exquisite beauty and some good family moments.
The weather was pretty good in the high 80’s that kept our food pretty hot enough during lunch time :-). The beach had all amenities that included shower, restrooms and barbeque facilities.
We spent until 4 PM in the Kamaloe beach and the kids were kind of satisfied to get out of water (including big kids) to proceed to the next beach. Big Beach is another great spot and a must see one in Maui. The beach has crystal clear water with very less people – we went there to watch the sunset and we didn’t see much crowd in this beach.
Big Beach is supposed to have the larger surf than the surrounding beaches, and the waves break right at the shore in what is known as a “shore break”. We did see the warning board in Big beach as well as Kamaole beaches on the shore breaks. It is definitely riskier and need to take extreme caution when surfing – Inspite of the warning board plus the warning from the women, the guys including the kids didn’t pay much attention to it π
This beach has a beautiful sunset views and some nice photos taken in this beach. We ended this day with a Mexican dinner in Lahaina.
