Last day in Maui – Day 6
Our last day was planned for the Helicopter tour on the full island of Maui. We booked the helicopter tour for the 11 AM time and it’s a 55 min ride. We checked out from Outrigger and headed towards the heliport. The weather was not cooperating well and there were shower breaks happening very intermittently. The weather is so unpredictable in Maui as we had seen showers in the weather channel from day 1 of our trip. Luckily all of the days turned out to be so beautiful and mostly in the 77’s – 80’s.
When we reached heliport to board the 11 AM tour, we noticed the weather was indeed becoming very rough. The Alex Air company reached out to few people to check on the wind speed and the overall weather conditions. Unfortunately they received the message that we’ll not be able to fly at that time and can probably take us later in the afternoon. As we had to take our Seattle flight that afternoon, we cancelled the tour and had to change our plans.
We utilized that time for shopping at the Maui Mall and buying other souvenirs. As we had been so busy for the last 5 days, we did not allocate any time for shopping and this turned out to be good for us in one way 🙂
Recommendations
Maui cannot be covered fully by land via car or other land transportation vehicles. Helicopter is definitely good way to see the entire island. When buying the helicopter tickets, watch for the fuel surcharge. Make sure that ur ticket price covers the fuel surcharge as well. Some companies might use this strategy to charge more money to the customers.
Though we couldn’t make the helicopter ride, we got the video from Alex Air and this activity seems to be a good one. So plan this trip on a good weather when you visit Maui next time.
